Surgical therapy of flail chest and hemothorax in 61 cases

Objective To evaluate the surgical therapy of flailchest and hemothorax.Methods The clinical data of 61 cases with flail chest and hemothorax from May.2007 to June.2009 were studied retrospectively.Results Sixty cases were cured(98.3%),there was not obvious pulmonary dysfunction during the followed-up,1 cases died of the rupture of dissecting Aneurysm(1.7%).Conclusion Integrative therapy should be taken for flail chest and hemothorax.Based on the treatment of countershock and retaining respiratory tract easy and smooth;to repair thoracic skeleton early and exploratory thoracotomy necessarily are also important.thus the pulmonary function can be recovered maximatily as early as possible.
