Abstract

The aim of study was to elucidate the influence of low temperature on the related physiological indexes in potato seedlings.3-weeks-old potato seedlings of variety ‘Atlantic’ were treated with the low temperature stress of 4 degrees C.The changes in the contents of chlorophyll and malondialdehyde(MDA),the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and peroxidase(POD) were determined at 0,6,12,24,36,48 hours after the treatment. The results showed that the content of chlorophyll and the activity of SOD were first decreased and then increased, and decreased again, the content of MDA were first increased and then decreased, and increased again, the activity of POD was first increased and then decreased. These data suggested that the endurance to low temperature was utmost in potato var.‘Atlantic’,and they would be injured beyond the limit(24 hours).
