Abstract
Based on the investigation, a few lab tests are conducted to study mechanical properties of loess at Yangwagou, in the east of Lanzhou. The test results show that there is a great difference in mechanical properties between primary loess and non-primary loess, and that the subsidence of non-primary loess in the same depth varies with its location. The structure of soil was proposed to explain these properties in the study area. It was suggested that the ground fissure should result from the subsidence difference. Finally, this study also put forward a reference, according to which, the subsidence coefficient of non-primary loess and supporting layer are obtained in Yangwagou.
