Comparison of auditory steady-state responses and auditory brainstem responses in audiometric assessment of adults with sensorineural hearing loss

Objective To investigate the difference and relationship between auditory steady-state evoked response(ASSR threshold),auditory brain stem response(ABR threshold) and pure tone threshold.Methods ASSR,ABR and pure tone thresholds were recorded in adults with sensorineural hearing loss (hearing loss group,110 ears).ASSR,ABR and pure tone thresholds were compared between hearing loss group,and the relationship between ASSR,ABR and pure tone threshold were analyzed.Results Both ASSR and ABR thresholds had the high correlations to pure tone threshold.In hearing loss group,the difference between ABR threshold and pure tone threshold was smaller,while that between ASSR and pure tone threshold was bigger.Correlations between ASSR and pure tone threshold were generally stronger than those between ABR and pure tone threshold.Conclusion Both ABR and ASSR can provide reasonably accurate predictions of behavioral threshold.
