Abstract
Metal matrix composite coating reinforced with TiC was fabricated on 16Mn steel substrate by induction cladding, using the powders of Ni60,titanium,and graphite as the raw materials, which was aiming at increasing the wear resistance of the steel. The microstructure of the composite coating was investigated using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, and X-ray diffractometer. The hardness and friction and wear behavior of the composite coating in dry sliding condition were examined as well. The results indicated that the induction cladding composite coating was free from porous and microcracks and homogeneous in terms of the microstructure as well, with the TiC particles as the reinforcing agent to be uniformly distributed in the eutectic matrix. Moreover, the composite coating had a much high hardness and excellent wear resistance under dry sliding condition.
