Analyzing the levels of serum albumin and prealbumin in the 59 cases of nonagenarians

Objective To study the levels of serum albumin and prealbumin in nonagenarians,and to analyze the relationship with the comorbid diseases. Methods According to the comorbid diseases,59 patients were divided into 3 groups: the group of having tumors,the group of having inflammation,and the group of having chronic diseases. The levels of serum albumin and prealbumin in these patients were detected. Results The levels of serum albumin in the group of having tumors(32.38±3.42)g/L,decreased compared to the group of having inflammation(35.42±4.51)g/L,and the group of having chronic diseases(36.85±4.11)g/L,had statistically difference(P0.01). The levels of serum prealbumin in the group of having tumors(12.88±3.72)g/L,decreased significantly compared to the group of having inflammation(22.12±4.78)g/L,and the group of having chronic diseases(22.79±3.67)g/L,had statistically difference(P0.01). Conclusions In the aged,the catabolism increased,the anabolism decreased,which can induce negative nitrogen balance easily. The tumor cause chronic exhaustion and malnutrition of the body,which lead to the decreasing of the levels of serum albumin and prealbumin.
