Abstract

Cotoneaster hjelmqvistii, grown in pots, treated with NaCl solutions in distinct concentrations of 2.16 (CK),3.16,4.16, 5.16,6.16 and 7.16 mg·L~(-1),was studied its salt tolerance.A randomized block design was adopted with 3 replicates in the experiment. The growth, the content of free proline and malondialdehyd (MDA) in the leaves were analyzed. The results show that the free proline content in the leaves increased at first and then decreased with the increase of salinity. When the salt concentration increased, the MDA content in the leaves increased roughly. The shoot growth treated with 3.16 mg·L~(-1) salt solution had no notable difference with CK.When the salt concentration was more than 3.16 mgoLl,the growth gradually declined with stronger salt stress.According to the results and the growth in saline-alkali soil,C.hjelmqvisti is one kind of ground cover plants with the admirable salt tolerance, and can grow vigorously in the soil whose salinity was less than 4.00 mg·L~(-1).
