Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between pressure overload and morphological remodeling of cardiac,pulmonary and renal arterioles in rats.Methods Pressure_overload rat model was adopted by constricting the abdominal aorta.The SD rats were categorized in2groups:Sham operated groups(SOG)and Operated groups(OG),which were classified on1,2,4,7,14,21,30,45,60days afteroperaˉtion.The morphometry of the cardiac,pulmonary and renal arterioles was studied microscopically on series section of cardiac,pulmonary and renal tissure combining computer_assistant image analysis.Results(1)Aˉlong with the increasing of pressure load,there may be the sequence of morphological remodelings of cardiac,pulˉmonary and renal arterioles.(2)The mean arterial pressure and duration of pressure overload significantly correlated with the ratio of wall thickness to inner diameter in cardiac and renal arterioles,which had no effect on the wall area of cardiac arterioles;There was significant correlation between the systolic pressure,duration of pressure overload and the ratio of wall thickness to inner diameter,wall area in pulmonary arterioles;similarly,there was significant correlation between the duration of pressure overload and the wall area of renal arterioles.Conclusions Pressure overload has close relation with dynamic morphological remodeling of cardiac,pulmonary and renal arterioles.The remodeling of cardiac arterioles is due to the rearrangement of medial smooth muscle cells(SMC),while that in pulmonary and renal arterioles is due to the hypertrophy and proliferation of the medial SMC.
