Abstract
The grazing behavior of Kerqin cattle was measured with the whole day long observation method on a natural pasture in the winter of 2002. The results showed that average time for foraging was 302. 2±26. 6 minutes, ruminating time was 13. 5±22. 4 minutes, resting time was 21. 6±27. 8 minutes, standing time was 14. 1±9. 5 minutes, and the time for wandering was 78. 2±26. 6 minutes. The rate of ingestion of Kerqin cattle was 47. 9±15. 7 bite/min en average. The average ingestive intake was 5. 31 kg/ cattle · day. The diurnal ruminating cycle appeared in the time of noon break. The ruminating behavior took place mainly at nights. Compared to days the time of rumination was longer and the number of ruminating circle and ruminating food bolus were increased at nights.
