Abstract
Objective In this study we compared the sensitivity of DWI with that of conventional MRI techniques,so as to evaluate the value of diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI),T 2WI and FLAIR in each stage cerebral infarction.Method We performed DWI,fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR),fast spin-echo T2-weighted MRI(T 2WI) in 32 patients with hyperacute, acute, subacute, chronic stroke. The different images were analyzed and compared. Results DWI was 100% sensitive to hyper-acute and acute cerebral infarct.DWI identified all hyperacute ischemic zones, however,T 2WI didn't.The lesions were more readily shown on DWI than on conventional T 2WI and FLAIR.Subacute and chronic infarcts presented hyperintensity or isointensity on DWI images. Conclusion Diffusion-weighted MR imaging is highly accurate for diagnosing hyper-acute and acute cerebral infarct and is superior to conventional MR imaging.DWI plays an important role in making early diagnosis and evaluation of cerebral infarction.
