Abstract

With the data given in the Tropical Cyclones Year Books from 1949 to 1999, the work studies the temporal variations of tropical cyclone landfall in China. The result suggests diurnal characteristics in the time of landfall. For the whole nation, the landfall appears more during the night and in the morning than during 0400~0700 and 1300~1800. The diurnal variations are mostly significant in Guangdong but less so in other parts of China. The study shows that the diurnal variation is more obvious with tropical cyclones that are weak or weakening during landfall.
