Abstract

A highly sensitive method for the determination of trace amounts of nitrite was established based on catalytic effect on the oxidation of carminic acid with bromate in acidic media.Under optimized conditions of 0.7×10 -2mol/L KBrO 3,1.8×10 -4mol/L carninic acid,0.4mol/L H 2SO 4 at 25℃,the detection limit for nitrite is 0.4ng/mL in the linear range of the determination of 2-50ng/mL.The method was used to determine trace nitrite in river water with satisfactory results.
