Abstract

The present article gives an overall commentary on the articles published in the special column Approaching in Shouhuo(No. 2. 2000). The author points Out the one-aided account of Feng Jicai, the prejudice against Luxun by Wang Shu. According to the author, Luxun's idea of transforming national characters has historical and cultural origins, for instance, the influence upon Luxun by famous Chinese thinkers such as Liang Qichao, Zhang Taiyan etc. Besides, there are outside influence of Japanese ideology as well as inside influence of Chinese culture. True Story of Ah Q is a literary appreciation of the ugly in our national characters. The purpose of creating the story is to realize national selfrescue through national self-examination. It is not a product of deception by westerners or of the influence of Occidentalism by western colonialists.
