Abstract
Objective To explore the effects of L-arginine on lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury. Methods SD rats were randomly divided into three groups:control group,LPS group and L-Arg group. LPS (100 g/kg) was injected into the abdominal cavity of rats 0.5 hour after L-arginine (500 mg/kg) administration. After two hours,the wet and dry weight ratio of the lung,protein concentration and leucocyte count in lung lavage fluid were measured,and a pathological examination of lung tissue conducted. Results Compared with the control group,the lung wet and dry weight ratio,protein concentration and leucocyte count in lung lavage fluid of the LPS group increased significantly (P0.01,n=8),the pathology of lung tissue aggravated. Compared with the LPS group,those in the L-Arg group decreased significantly (P0.01,n=8),and the pathology of lung tissue was better. Conclusion These results implied that L-Arg may protect acute lung injury from LPS.
