On the Financial Supervision in the Late Qing Dynasty

Abstract

The germinating of financial supervision theory is closely connected with the incoming and evolution of central bank theory from Europe,the United States and Japan in the late Qing dynasty.Drawing on the experiences of Japan,the government of Qing dynasty set up a financial supervision system which is a finance-centered ministry and Daqing bank as bridge.A financial supervision and regulation system is weaved to be put into practice with the promulgation of a series of laws and regulations.The internal control system specially existing in banking has been in operation and tend to be strengthened with the improvement of external supervision and regulations.The financial supervision in the late Qing dynasty has several features like emergency,passive supervision,simple way,lack of supervision on the foreign financial institutions and so on.
