Opening and Development of the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone

The building of developed economic areas is the driving force to boost China' s economy.The Jing-Jin-Tang Triangle Economic Areas,Pearl River Delta Economic Area and Yangtze River Delta Economic Area play a positive role in China's national economic construction. The Beibu Gulf Economic Area of Guangxi features the conditions and opportunity for economic development.The Beibu Gulf economic zone has a close spatial connection with Pan-Beibu Gulf and Beibu Gulf Rim,which is the only border area and coastal area in west China,the most convenient transport channel in southwest China,an important bridge and a base promoting comprehensive cooperation between Chinese and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries and an important border and frontier with ASEAN.The geographical location of the Beibu Gulf economic zone is extremely important.Beibu Gulf economic zone will become the new growth pole,improving the Chinese coastal economic growth belt.We analyze the geographical location,the importance of opening and development,the opening and development conditions and the challenges of Beibu Gulf economic zone.This paper includes perspectives on regional cooperation,industrial development,city function,and ports and development.From a regional cooperation perspective,the Beibu Gulf economic zone should build international channels.From an industry perspective,the Beibu Gulf economic zone should foster competitive industries and create industrial clusters.From the urban development perspective,the Beibu Gulf economic zone should make accurate positions and functions of the major cities.From a port development perspective,the Beibu Gulf economic zone should build a regional port industry complex.Based on this analysis,we propose policies for the promotion of comprehensive development of the Beibu Gulf economic zone.
