Textual Research on Xie Lingyun and Tanlong’s Making Friends

Xie Lingyun was a poet, a Buddhist philosopher and a person with a literary reputation of the period of the Jin Dynasty and the Song Dynasty. Tanlong was a mendicant Buddhist monk of that time. According to the historical records, the two had some contact with each other, but the records are not quite clear. This paper studies the relevant historical documents,makes clear the clues of their respective Buddhist activities, marks the link points of their contact and describes the situations. The paper concludes that they had lived together for about four years,during that period Xie Lingyun led a secluded life in Mount Dongshan of Shining.
