Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between serum resistin levels and carotid intima-media thickness(CIMT)in newly-diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes(T2DM).Methods 122 newly-diagnosed patients with T2DM were divided into two groups by CIMT(CIMT≥1.0 mm or CIMT1.0 mm):thickened-CIMT group(n=52)and normal-CIMT group(n=70).Fasting serum resistin concentration was measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).CIMT was tested by high frequency color Doppler ultrasound. Results The fasting serum resistin levels were significantly higher in thickened-CIMT group than that in normal-CIMT group(P0.05).Spearman analysis showed that serum resistin level was significantly correlated with CIMT(r=0.247,P=0.028).After adjusting for age,sex and body mass index(BMI),the serum resistin level was still significantly correlated with CIMT(r=0.198,P=0.034).Multinomial Logistic regression analysis showed that serum resistin level was significantly associated with CIMT thickening(OR=1.39,95% CI:1.08-2.04,P=0.037).Conclusions This study indicated that serum resistin in newly-diagnosed patients with T2DM is independently associated with CIMT thickening.
