Relationship Between Phenylalanine Ammonia-lyase Activity and Inophyllums Production in Suspension Cultured Cells of Calophyllum inophyllum

Abstract

Changes in phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) activity and inophyllums production were analysed, showing that PAL activity increased preceding the inophyllums production during the process of suspension culture. PAL activity changed after adding fungal elicitor, followed by changes of inophyllums production. Addition of the PAL inhibitor L-2-amono-3-phenylpropionic acid at 10 μmol·L-1 suppressed the induction of PLA activity and the corresponding inophyllums production. When the fungal elicitor was added with the inhibitor, the both PAL activity and inophyllums production were between those induced by fungal elicitor and control. There existed a significantly correlation between PAL activity and inophyllums yield in CR2 suspension cultured cell of Calophyllum inophyllum.
