Patriarchal Clan and Chinese Society——A Review on Maurice Freedman's Theory on Chinese Patriarchal Clan

Abstract

Patriarchal is one of important dimension to understand Chinese society.Maurice Freedman's mode on Patriarchal Clan discussed the structure of patriarchal clan and function of patriarchal clan in southeast China,and the relationship between patriarchal clan and nation.In addition,he put forward theory mode of Frontier Society Theory and asymmetric branch structure of patriarchal clan etc.These theory modes on Chinese patriarchal clan could offer us a lot of enlightenments on the relations between state and society,and anthropological on-the-spot investigation approach.
