Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effect of atorvastatin on mRNA expression of endothelial lipase(EL) in cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Methods: Each group of cultured HUVEC was incubated with atorvastatin of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 μmol/L for 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 hours separately. The expression of ELmRNA in HUVEC was detected by quantitative competitive reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: Atorvastatin markedly restrained the expression of ELmRNA in HUVEC. During the same period, the expression of ELmRNA was gradually decreased with the increased concentration of atorvastatin. In the same concentration, ELmRNA was reduced with the prolonged action period. Conclusion: Atorvastatin can restrain the expression of ELmRNA, that is dependent on the concentration and time.
