Abstract
The adsorption property of nutshell activated carbon for phenol in wastewater was studied;the influences of contact time, temperature and pH value on adsorption effect were investigated with adsorption isotherm and kinetic curves drawn at the same time. The results of the test showed that: the phenol adsorption by nutshell activated carbon tended to equilibrium in about 6 h,the removal rate of phenol reached 96.63%.During the process, the effect of temperature was not remarkable while the pH value influenced the adsorption significantly.Acidic and neutral conditions were found to be favorable for phenol adsorption. When the adsorbent concentration was fixed, both Langmuir and Fremudlich adsorption isotherm could fit the equilibrated data very well, and Lagergren pseudo-second order equation gave the best fitting degree to the date of kinetics experiment.
