On Conscience and Its Educability

Abstract
After analyzing the concept of conscience from its contents, standards and essence, this paper holds that conscience is an awareness of pursuing virtues which embodies the ideal of human morality. Based on this, the paper explores whether conscience is inborn or developable, and thus concludes that conscience is teachable. The final part of the paper shows a view that conscience education is to provide the very conditions necessary for the development and maturation of conscience and to provoke the awareness of conscience.
