Abstract

The water consumption rate of cotton under sufficient irrigation is the foundation to formulate the irrigation strategies.Cotton was watered with different irrigation frequency by the condition of drip irrigation under the films to research the variety of the water consumption rate.In the experiments, the irrigation cycles were treated as 2,4,6 days respectively, with a contrast treatment.Meanwhile soil water content, the main root of the cotton and the production of the cotton were observed. The results of the experiments have indicated that compared with the contrast treatment, the high-frequency drip irrigation resulted in a higher soil moisture content in the top layer of the soil, shallow water consumption depth, and a bigger water consumption rate of the cotton during its flower-bell,which the water consumption rate was high to 12 mm/d while was low in other growing periods. With the increasing of irrigation frequency, the water consumption rate of the cotton increased in the flower-bell period, the bells were more, the main root of cotton was shorter, but the production of the cotton increased up to 7.3%~17.4%.
