On Zhao Songting's Contribution to the Chinese Flute

Abstract

Songting's contribution to the Chinese flute mainly includes the formation of distinctive Zhao school style rooted in traditional Chinese opera,expanding the performance capabilities of Chinese flute after exploration and cultivating successors of the Chinese flute.In addition,Zhao initiated the calculation theory and method of flute frequency,developed the L-shape double-bass flute,designed and made the ancient flute instrument chi,and published books of Selected Flute Musicby Songting,Ten Lectures on Flute Performance Skills etc..These achievements can be concludedas the establishment of a strict standard performance and teaching system of the Chinese flute standing the test of time.
