Expression of telomerase and prognosis in esophageal carcinoma

Abstract
Objective To study the significance of the expression of telomerase in esophageal carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of telomerase in esophageal carcinoma. Results The positive rate of telomerase in esophageal cancer was 66.1%(74/102). The expression of telomerase was independent of the sex and age, but it had evident relevance to esophageal cancer differential degree, the invasion depth and with or without lymph node metastasis. The positive rate of telomerase in the died patient was more higher than in live. Conclusion The expression of telomerase is found in esophageal cancer and is important for estimation of prognosis in patients with esophageal cancer.
