Abstract

Objective To make individualized prediction of the ideal locations of the marking points on soft and hard tissues in beautiful people of Han nationality with polar coordinates. Methods A total of 62 beautiful first-year(aged 19-22) college students of a university were selected to take their cephalometric portal films;polar coordinates were established with Bolton(Bo) point as the extreme point, and Bo-N line as the polar axis. The polar coordinates(polar distance and polar angle) of the marking points on maxillofacial soft and hard tissues were measured respectively, and the measurements were statistically analyzed with Minitab 15(simplified Chinese) and SPSS Statistics 17.0.Results All the measured distances(polar distance) were correlated with Bo-N(polar radius L) and Lsinα(P0.01);all the measured angles(polar angle) were correlated with N-Bo-Sn(angle α)(P0.05);all the measurements of the locations of marking points on soft and hard tissues could be expressed by the regression equations related to Bo-N and Lsinα(P0.01).The polar coordinates of gnathion(Gn) showed the following features:①the polar distance Bo-Gn(L′) and Bo-N(L) were positively correlated:L′=2.067+1.111L-0.545Lsinα.②The polar angle Sn-Bo-Gn(β)and N-Bo-Sn(α) were positively correlated:β=1.234α+21.749.(P0.01) Conclusions For any patient,by measurement of their Bo-N(L) and N-Bo-Sn(α),regression equations of polar coordinates can be used to predict the ideal locations of the marking points on their maxillofacial soft and hard tissues.
