Study on HIV/syphilis infections among men who have sex with men and their behavioral feature

Objective To investigate high risk behaviors related to HIV/AIDS among men who have sex with men(MSM)in Tianjin and the rate of HIV/syphilis infections among them so as to provide evidence for prevention of HIV/STD.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 204 MSM in bars with face to face interviews and blood smaples were taken to test HIV/syphilis.Results Of the 204 MSM the rate of knowledge about HIV was 81.4%,and 47.9% of the participants reported consistent condom use with their male sex partners in the last six months,while only 11.1% of the HIV infected MSM used condom and 71.4% of them had more than two male sex partners in the last six months;5.9% of partners were infected with HIV,and 18.7% were infected with syphilis.Conclusion The infection of HIV/syphilis is severe and high risk sexual behaviros were ubiquitous among MSM in Tianjin,and to control local HIV transmission prevention of HIV/STD among MSM should be strengthened.
