A Study of Zhao Shuli ' s Novels

Beginning with an analysis of Zhao Shuli' s earlier productions, this article combs out some of his approaches to the problems of peasants and intellectuals in his novels. From the angle of descriptions of typical characters , the article also presents the writer' s contemplation of and his reflections on the problems which emerged when dominant ideologies conflicted with peasants' consciousness. Furthermore, through analyses of his writings, the article attempts to search for some spiritual resources that can be conducive to resolving contemporary problems of China in the experience of revolution and socialism presented in Zhao Shuli' s novels.
