Abstract
William James's pragmatic theory of truth asWhat is true works and What works is trueis not a simple arbitrary decision, but a series of deduction process of the pragmatic theory including certain reasonable factors of materialism and dialectic.This paper,using the basic standpoint of Marxism,reveals the originality of William James's pragmatic theory of truth from three new angles of view, namely the realization course of truth, the humanistic basis of truth and the unification of benefit,truth, good and beauty of truth.Truth reflects the concrete practical relation between the human and the world,it is a confirmed process shaped by practical effectiveness, truth possesses the nature of value or the meaning of humanism, and truth is an entity of benefit, truth, good and beauty.
