Study of HIV and syphilis infection situation and sexual behavioral characteristics among 416 MSM

Objective To understand the behavioral characteristics and HIV and syphilis infection situation among MSM populations in Beijing.Method interviewers,together with MSM volunteers,conducted face to face interviews with MSM which were in line with the selection criteria,and blood samples were taken for HIV-tests and syphilis tests in MSM-centered places.Results A total of 416 MSM were investigated,of whom 49% had sex with women.The condom use rate was higher with a casual sex partner than with a regular male partner.The condom use rates during sex with regular female partners and casual female partners were 16.5% and 40.0%,respectively.The syphilis and HIV infection rates are 10.3% and 1.7% respectively,and the infection situation is closely related to the educational background and number of partners.Conclusions The MSM population in Beijing is active sexually.Many have multiple sex partners,and nearly half of them have sex with women.Further,condom use rate is low;HIV and syphilis epidemic exist in this population and there is a concern that the epidemic will expand further.
