Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hsCRP) and intima media thickness(IMT) of the carotid atherosclerosis in elderly hypertensive patients. Methods The 86 elderly hypertensive patients were measured with IMT and hsCRP.These patients were devided into three groups(normal IMT thick-IMT plaque formed IMT) and compared with each group in hsCRP.To analyze the relationship between IMT of the carotid atherosclerosis and hsCRP,using statistics methods in the abnormal IMT patients. Results Serum hsCRP was significantly higher in the group with carotid atherosclerosis(CA) than without CA[(7.6±1.6)mg/L vs(3.6±1.3)mg/L,P 0.05].Serum hsCRP was higher in patients with carotid plaque than those of notmal IMT and incteased IMT[(9.3±1.8)mg/L vs(3.6±1.3)mg/L,(9.3± 1.8)mg/L vs(6.8±1.2)mg/L,P 0.05]. Conclusion IMT of elderly hyper-tensive patients is positive relative with hsCRP,so hsCRP can be used as a mark to realize the degree and the judgement atherosclerosis.
