Abstract

In order to learn the effect of grafting on the quality of cucumber, choose optimal rootstock and combination of scion/rootstock for cucumber culture, two different ecotypic cucumber varieties Chunqiuwang and Huza No.6 were used in order to study the effect of grafting of different pumpkin as rootstock by insert-grafting on vitamin C(Vc),soluble sugar and soluble protein content in cucumber fruit. The results indicated that there was no significant difference between varieties of Chunqiuwang and Huza No.6,with the content of vitamin C about 0.05 mg/100 g,soluble sugar 0.44%-0.59% and soluble protein 0.5 μg/g(FW) in cucumber fruits.Compared with the control, the content of Vc dropped after grafting treatment. The Vc content varied with different combinations of stock and scion.K2-902 stock significantly influenced the Vc content in fruits. And the content of Vc in the Southern Chinese type cucumber fruit was less affected by rootstock than in the European greenhouse cucumber.Compared with the controls, the content of soluble sugar and soluble protein in fruit increased after grafting treatment. And grafting with pumpkin rootstock favors the accumulation of soluble sugar and soluble protein in cucumber fruits.
