Abstract
Graft copolymerization of acrylamide (AM) on starch in aqueous medium was carried out by means of adsorbing potassium persulfate (KPS) and acrylamide on starch beforehand.The effects of concentrations of monomer (AM) and initiator (KPS) and temperature on copolymerization were investigated.Under the optimum conditions,both conversion of AM and graft efficiency increased and the graft of polyacrylamide (PAM) in copolymer reached 60.9%.Experimental results showed that copolymers having high graft percentage of PAM possessed good ability of flocculation and remaining aid.The efficiency of remaining aid reached 12.3% when the graft of PAM in copolymer was 60.9%.
