Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of piperacillin/tazobactam in the treatment of bacterial infections. Methods A randomized controlled clinical trial was performed and imipenem/cilastain was employed as the control drug. An open trial on piperacillin/tazobactam for 13 patients was conducted. Results The efficacious rates of piperacillin/tazobactam and imipenem/cilastain were 93.75% and 87.50% respectively. The bacterial clearance rate was 85.7% in piperacillin/tazobactam group and 75% in imipenem/cilastain group. No significant difference was found between the 2 groups. The clinical efficacy of piperacillin/tazobactam was 84.62%, while the adverse reaction rate was 3.45%. Conclusion Piperacillin/tazobactam is a high efficient and safe broard-spectrum antibacterial agent.
