Changes of SOD and POD Activities in Wheat Leaves Infected by Wheat Powdery Mildew and Their Relations to Resistance

Abstract

Analysis on 18 wheat varieties 12 days after inoculation with Erysiphe graminis f.sp.tritici showed that all wheat varieties with different resistances to wheat powdery midew had similar changes in superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and was positively correlated with the resistance to wheat powdery mildew (r= 0.575).Peroxidase (POD) activities at 0 and 6 days after inoculation were positively correlated with the resistance to wheat powdery midew ( r=0.675 and r=582 ),respectively,while 12 days after inoculation,POD activity was negatively correlated with resistance (r= -708 ).It is suggested that changes of SOD and POD activities might be used as an important index to identify resistant varieties.
