Abstract
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the curative efficacy of ipratropine combined with budesonide and terbutaline via atomization inhalation plus comprehensive therapy for moderate or severe acute episode of bronchial asthma in children and especially their effect on patients' lung function.METHODS: 400 children with moderate or severe acute episode of bronchial asthma were randomly divided into treatment group and control group of 200 each. Both groups received comprehensive treatment as suggested in the guidelines. Moreover, the control group was treated with budesonide and terbutaline by aerosol inhalation, and the treatment group was treated with ipratropine combined with budesonide and terbutaline by aerosol inhalation. The two groups were compared with regard to improvement in clinical symptoms and lung function.RESULTS: In the treatment group, the overall excellently effective rate was 93%(186/200) and total effective rate was 98%(196/200),with complete remission in 128 patients(64%),excellent efficacy in 58(29%),improvement in 10(5%) and treatment failure in 4(2%),as compared with the overall excellently effective rate of 78%(156/200),total effective rate of 91%(182/200),complete remission in 104(52%),excellent efficacy in 52(26%),improvement in 26(13%) and treatment failure in 18(2%) of the control group, with treatment group showing significantly higher total excellently effective rate and total effective rate than in the control group(P0.01).Before treatment, there were no significant differences between the two groups in FEV1 and FEV1%(P0.001);however,both group showed significant increase in FEV1 and FEV1% after treatment(P0.001),much as in the treatment group(P0.001).CONCLUSION: The addition of ipratropine combined with budesonide and terbutaline via atomization inhalation to comprehensive therapy resulted in more effective and rapid efficacy than did budesonide plus terbutaline in the treatment of moderate or severe acute episode of bronchial asthma in children.
