Abstract
Undercutting effect on protected Kapton material under atomic oxygen environment in low earth orbit is studied in this paper. The Monte Carlo method is employed to simulate the interaction of atomic oxygen with Kapton and results which match with LDEF experiment data are obtained. The results also show that defect size on protective coating is an important factor to depth of undercutting. Finally, influences on undercutting shape due to non specular reflection are considered in the paper.
