The Meeting of and Conflict between Traditional Culture and Christianity——the cultural interpretation of the relationship between Lin Yutang and Christianity

Based on the historical relationship between Lin Yutang and Christianity,this paper discusses the process of Lin Yutang's transformation from believing in Christianity into rebellion against it and then into re_believing in it,which,it is thought,marks the course of his inner most being,and displays the unique significance of traditional culture in modern times,and of Christian culture in China.The belief transformaˉtion in Lin Yutang contains the contradiction and the interinfiltration between his personal feelings and raˉtionalities,and the historical predicament of modern intellectuals like that of thoughts and cultures.
