Abstract
Effects of alloying elements Ca and Ba on ignition temperature and melt viscosity of magnesium alloy AZ63 were investigated. Results indicated that with the increase of Ca or Ba content, ignition temperature of magnesium alloy was increased;Dynamic viscosity of magnesium alloy melt was increased gradually with the decrease of the temperature and dropped at 963 K;There existed a certain relation between ignition temperature and melt viscosity of magnesium alloy AZ63 containing Ca or Ba: viscosity increased, ignition temperature of magnesium alloy increased, too. So ignition-proof effect of an alloying element can be judged by testing relations between different alloying elements and viscosity of magnesium alloys and this is a new approach to research effective ignition-proof alloying elements.
