Abstract
Objective To analyze the distribution and diseases burden of injury death among Wuhan residents in 2009,and provide a scientific basis for preventing and controlling injury. Methods The gross mortality, standardized mortality, years of potential life lost(YPLL),standardized years of potential life lost(SYPLL) and working years of potential lost(WYPLL) were calculated by collecting injury death data from the death registry system in Wuhan City in 2009.Results The gross mortality of injury was 45.50 per 100 000,and standardized mortality was 33.01 per 100 000.The gross mortality in male(54.77 per 100 000) was higher than in female(35.77 per 100 000),and in rural(49.66 per 100 000) was higher than in urban(42.63 per 100 000).The top six leading causes of injury death were traffic accident, drowning, falls, suicide, unintentional poisoning and homicide.Drowning was the main cause of injury death among the population from 0 to 14 years old,and traffic accident was the main cause from 15 to 64 years old,and falls, traffic accident, suicide was the main cause of injury death among the population more than 65 years old.YPLL,SYPLL and WYPLL in injury were 73 470 years,84 734 years and 50 073 years respectively. The YPLL,SYPLL and WYPLL were 24.01%,30.36% and 31.62% of total death respectively, which were all higher than the proportion for injury death of total death. Conclusions Injury was the important disease burden leading to premature death and life losses. The related administrative department of public health should pay more attention to the social and economic losses caused by the injury death.Effective control strategies directed towards the risk population should be formulated based on the death notation of injury,so as to decrease the death and disability to the utmost caused by injury.
