Abstract

Brown planthopper(BPH),Nilaparvata lugens Stal,is an insect pest that specially feeds on rice.BPH are categorized into biotype 1,2,3and 4,according to their damage to different cultivars.BPH causes serious loss of rice production in many Asian countries including China.Cultivation of resistant varieties is the most effective and economical method of controlling BPH.In this paper, biological character, distribution and biotype of BPH were reviewed.Research and application status of BPH resistant genes were introduced in detail. At the same time, suggestions were made on development of research on BPH resistant genes in the future.
