Effect of Combined Acupuncture and Medication on Post-stroke Depression and Daily Activity

Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of the combination of acupuncture and medication on post-stroke depression and daily activity by adopting single-blind randomized method.Method A total of 150 patients with post-stroke depression were randomized into a medication group,an acupuncture group,and a combined acupuncture and medication group.Single-blind method was used to observe the changes of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD) and Activity of Daily Living(ADL) of the three groups.Result After treatment,the HAMD and ADL of the three groups all had significant improvement,and the improvement of the combined acupuncture and medication group was markedly superior to that of the other two groups.Conclusion The combination of acupuncture and medication has obvious advantage in improving the depression state and daily activities of the post-stroke depression patients compared with acupuncture or medication alone.
