The Study of the Reasons and Prevention of Post-operative Complications of Transurethral Electrovaporization of Prostate

Objective To review the post-operative complications of transurethral electrovaporization of prostate(TVP).Methods TVP was undertaken for 2 028 patients with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).One thousand and seven hundred and thirty five patients have been followed up at least 6 months after operation.Results Post-operative complications included urethral stricture in 52 patients,acute urine retention in 47,urinary infection in 64,bleeding in 36,incontinence in 8,epididymitis in 5 and gland residual in 3.Conclusions Operative injury is the main cause of urethral stricture;urinary infection is the usual cause of post-operative bleeding.Successful control of presoperative urinary tract infection and careful operation is the key point to prevent post-operative complications.
