Abstract

A mixture of LaBr3 and Al2O3 is formed by the direct reaction of La2O3 with Al powder and Br2. AlBr3 is also formed with excess amount of Al and Br2. Vapor complex LaAl3Br12 forms at high temperature. After chemical vapor transport reaction for 24 hrs in the temperature gradient field, anhydrous LaBr3 is finally obtained.
