Abstract

Objective To observe the protective effect of dexrazoxane on cardiotoxicity induced by epirubicin. Methods A total of 117 female patients with breast cancer were randomly assigned to be treated with anthracyclines, received anthracycline-based chemotherapy either with(n=61)or without(n=56) dexrazoxane for 6cycles.All of the patients were continuous follow-up in 2 years, monitoring the cardiac function condition before treatment, after treatment every cycle,complete,1 year after treatment,2 years after treatment by the myocardial calcium protein, myocardial enzymes, left ventricular ejection fraction. Results Compared with those receiving anthracycline alone, patients teated with dexrazoxane experienced significantly fewer cardiacevents and less heart toxicity. Conclusion Dexrazoxane not only has cardiao-protective activty against cardio-toxicity induced by epirubicin.
