Abstract

The Ji'an dialect,in the fields of perfect aspect and ″already″aspect,has something in common with putonghua,and something different.In the case of the perfect aspect of verbs,the 了1in putonghua can indicate the happening and finish of an act,or a result of an act,while in the Ji'an dialect哩and[pu]are used to indicate these two cases respectively.Meanwhile,[pu],in addition to indicating the result of an act,indicates the speaker's stress on what is said.In the case of the ″already″aspect of verbs,what is expressed by 了2in putonghua is expressed by哩in the Ji'an dialect.The difference between the Ji'an dialect and putonghua is manifested chiefly in sentences where了1and了2are used simultaneously.
