Effects of Temperature and Salinity on the Oxygen Consumption and Ammonia Excretion Rate of Spisula solidissima

The effects of temperature and salinity on the oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion rate of Spisula solidissima were studied from Oct to Dec,2004.For temperature effect,the samples'dried weights of soft tissue were 0.044 g±0.005 g and the temperature was set at 6℃,10℃,13℃,16℃,19℃,22℃and 25℃.For salinity effect,the samples' dried weights of soft tissue were 0.043 g±0.005 g and the salinity was set at 13,19,25,31,37,43 and 49.The experimental results were as follows:(1)The oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion rate were strongly affected by temperature(P0.01).Both increased with increasing temperature,and the oxygen consumption rate reached its peak value at 22℃and began to decrease at 25℃. The ammonia excretion rate continuously increased from 6℃to 25℃.The O/N value ranged from 9.01 19.24 and reached its peak at 16℃.(2)The oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion rate were strongly affected by salinity(P0.01).Under the test salinity(13～49),the oxygen consumption and ammonia excre- tion rate increased with increasing salinity and reached its peak value at 43,and then began to decrease.The O/N value ranged from 16.14～39.72.
