Abstract

We introduced from Dr.Mitchell s laboratory the engineering bacteria of recombinant Sj26 antigen gene which is extremely similar to 24—26 kD antigen purified from Chinese strain of S.japonicum.The ex- traction,purification and preliminary application of rSj26 were carried out.The results showed that:(1) rSj26 antigen can be used in ELISA to detect the specific antibody in sera of mice infected with S.japonicum (Chinese strain),The highest titer was 1:320 which was almost same level comparing with 24—26 kD anti- gen.(2)The level of antibody in sera of mice immunized with rSj26 detected by 24—26 kD antigen was similar to that by rSj26 antigen.The level of antibody against rSj26,however,was lower when using SEA (S.j).(3)The worm reduction rate after challenging infection in mice immunized with rSj26 was as high as 44.4%,and was similar to that in mice immunized with 24—26 kD antigen.It is suggested that rSj26 antigen can induce certain level of specific protective immunity to protect the host against infection by Chi- nese strain of S.japonicum cercariae.The progress in application of rSj26 antigen discussed.
