Abstract

: Numerical classification of marine microalgae is studied on their fatty acids by using squared Eucliden distance as similarity measure and Ward method as clustering algrithm. The result of cluster analysis of twenty species of microalgae could be classified into four groups: Group I. six Chrysophyceae (a10-a15);GroupⅡ. one Chrysophyceae (a16),two Chlorophyceae (a1, a3) and all three Dinophyceae (a17-a19);GroupⅢ. one Chlorophyceae (a2) and one Rhlorophyceae (a20);GroupⅣ. two Chlorophyceae (a4, a5) and all four Bacillariophyceae (a6-a9). This numerical classification method of chemometrics is considerablely differented from methods of traditional taxonomy and chemotaxonomy, it also helps to quantitively evaluate nutritive value on marine microalgae.
